Adult Programs

All new classes require pre-registration with payment by the specified class deadline.
Classes have size limits and only pre-paid registrants will be allowed to participate.

Out of District class participants will be required to pay an extra $5 fee because they are not part of the tax-based support for MRC. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. Class fees will no longer be pro-rated.

Class Participant Rules:

  1. You need not be a member to attend a class.
  2. Class fees are separate from membership fees and are based on frequency, length and cost of providing the class.
  3. Class participants may not bring children younger than 10 to the MRC during their class. This includes both the gym and sitting in the classroom. If you plan on having your 10 year old and above children with you while in class, they must be part of a family membership or have a paid day pass to use the gym.

Additional Information on Classes:

  1. All new classes require pre-registration and payment prior to starting the first class, or by the stated deadline.
  2. Classes have size limits and only pre-paid registrants will be allowed to participate.
  3. IF classes are not full, we will accept registrations after the stated deadline.
  4. IF classes do not meet minimums set by the MRC, the class will be cancelled.

Adult Enrichment

Basic Drawing:
Dates: September 7-October 12, 2010. (6 week session)
Day/Time: Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Fee: $25.00 per person, includes supplies.
Ages: 16 years and older.

This class will expose students to pencil drawing, to include 1 and 2 point perspective, still life, landscape, design, and very basic geometric shapes. Light shading, texture, and line usage will be incorporated into drawings.

Painting with Acrylics:

Various approaches in Acrylic Painting will be explored from preparing your surface to finishing your project.  Canvas painting through painting on wood is included.

Ceramics
Dates: October 28-December 16, 2010.
Day:

Fee:  $45.00, includes supplies to complete project.
Ages:  14 years old and up. 
Limit:  15 participants.

Students will be contacted a week prior to the first day of class.  You will pick out your project.  Project allowance $30.00 anything beyond $30.00 student will be responsible for. 
Guidance in stains, brushing techniques, and finishes will be taught.  Let your minds go to rest and your hands go to work, your creativity will come alive.

Digital Photography, Getting Started:

Getting started with Digital Photography is an introductory class.  Topics covered will include Shopping for a Camera, “Basic Point and Shoot” Photography, How to view and clear your pictures, loading from your camera onto a computer, On-Line Processing and In Store Processing.

Digital Photography II:

Topics will include developing your “work flow,” a series of routines for capturing, copying, processing and organizing your photographs on your PC.  You will learn to copy your images to the computer, back up your images and how to properly use and care for your memory card.  No computer skills are necessary, but some familiarity with Windows will help.  A brief look at photo editing will conclude the session.

Gain hands on experience making these three tasty appetizers!  Arnell will show you how to prepare and cook Egg Rolls (pork or veggie) Won Tons, and Shrimp Chips.  She will have samples available to try the day of and you will go home with your own batch to be cooked of these delicious foods.  Also available for sampling, sauces to compliment these appetizers.

Mexican Cooking

Authentic Mexican Cooking.  Learn how to make beef flour tacos and beef corn tostada. You will be frying your own shells and topping it with homemade hot or mild pico de gallo.

Scrap Booking

MRC Scrapbooking is an ongoing opportunity for scrapbookers to work.  Each session will have some formal instruction, tips, tricks and techniques discussed.  You will be able exchange ideas with your fellow scrappers in a fun social environment.  Crickets, punches, and other tools will be available for use during class.

Mulvane Recreation Commission and Fitness Boot Camp of Wichita are teaming up for 6 week Bootcamp training to include: 2 Nutrition Seminars, Fitness assessments, 24 one hour workouts, and weekly online nutrition menus.

Activities included in the Fitness Boot Camp: Cross Training, Hiking, Trail Running, Upper Body Strength Training, and Outdoor Adventure Courses. If this isn't enough to get you in shape, expert and nutrition counselors will assist you with caloric requirements to reach your own personal goals.

All participants are welcome to attend other Bootcamp locations as well as their own.

Looking for a foot stomping good time? Come join MRC’s clogging classes. Beginner participants will learn basic clogging steps. Participants must complete the beginner class before advancing to the Advanced Beginner class. Advanced Beginner participants will refine basic steps and work on more challenging choreography.

Give your abs a work out that will have them asking for more. This thirty minute class will focus on various abdominal and back exercises to improve core strength.

This is a combo class doing circuits, partner work and core work. It is more toning and defining muscles than cardiovascular, however you will get your heart rate up lifting weights.

Judo is a form of self defense that teaches mat work, throws, chokes, arm bars, sweeps and self discipline. This class is instructional and offers physical benefits. Bring your whole family and get some exercise while also learning the art of Judo. All skill levels are welcome. Class time will be divided accordingly. Uniforms will be discussed in class.

Tae Kwon Do
Day/Time: Mondays, 7:15-8:45 p.m. (1 hour and 30 minute class).
Fees: $30.00 per person, per 8 week session.
Ages: 7 year olds thru adult.
Limit: 20 per class.
Instructor: Dean Carson, 5th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. His credentials are recognized by both the International Martial Arts Federation (IMAF) and the World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTF).

Tae Kwon Do is a martial art of self-defense from Korea that teaches powerful kicks, punches and blocks. Physically, Tae Kwon Do develops strength, speed, balance, flexibility and stamina. Class typically includes stretching, warm-up exercises, kicking drills, form practice, self-defense, and free sparring. Pairing will be done based on ages, and level of experience.  This class is for all skill levels.

Continuing fitness activities..

Gymnasium
The Gym is open to the general MRC membership and Day Pass users except for the following times:

Walking: Reserved from opening until 10:00 a.m. Monday thru Saturday, for walking, only—requires membership or day pass.  Seniors:  See our special Senior Walking Pass for Senior Citizens, only.

Please bring a pair of dedicated, clean athletic shoes to use in the gym. Street shoes will no longer be allowed.

Open Gym: The MRC gym is open to members and day pass users to shoot baskets or play volleyball from 10:00 a.m. to closing, Monday thru Saturday, and all afternoon Sundays.
Gym Closing: Dates and times will be posted, prior to use, when the gym is closed for MRC programs.

Fitness Center/Weight Room: Our fitness center/weight room is equipped with treadmills, elliptical machines, a stationary bike, a recumbent bike, free weights and various weight apparatus for MRC members or Day Pass guests, 16 years old and above. For further descriptions of specific equipment, see our Fitness page. For rules on using the fitness room, see our Rules page.

The MRC Fitness Center/Weight Room is available to our members and day pass users who are 16 years old and up during all open hours.

Please bring your own headphones for use with the machines that have TVs or audio.

Full size lockers are available for use in the far East hall—beyond the restrooms.  Small lockers are available just outside of the Fitness Center/Weight Room.
 
MRC does not supply locks, does not have showers, and does not provide towels.

The personal fitness consultation gives the opportunity to have an instructor set a workout routine tailored to your fitness level and schedule. By appointment, only.

Requirements:  MRC member in good standing and assessment that includes paper work, measurements, fitness tests, etc. Costs based on person(s) x  sessions=price:

  • During your first Personal Training Session our Certified Personal Trainer will evaluate your Strength, Flexibility, Cardio strength, Body fat analysis, Measurements and Weight 
  • During the second session with our Personal Trainer, you will be given a work plan.  The Personal Trainer will guide you through the workout and answer any questions you may have. 
  • Choosing additional sessions will allow the Personal Trainer to further customize your workout. 
  • Continue to train with a Personal Trainer for consistency in work out routines, motivation and safety while working out; and you will see steady growth in your strength and in your cardio performance.
  • If you choose to work out with our Personal Trainer on a regular basis, you will meet your goals faster and safer.  Our Personal Trainer will adapt your program as needed to optimize your work outs!

Call the MRC to leave your name and a phone number to reach you. Tyan will set the appointments with you personally. Payment at the MRC is required before your first session with the personal trainer.

Personal Training 4-week Small Group Workout Plan

That is 12 sessions with a Certified Personal Trainer for only $80.00 per person!

This is an incredible opportunity for you and 3 friends to work out with a Certified Personal Trainer. 

During your first session, your physical abilities, weight, measurements and body fat will be evaluated.  Based on the group results, our Personal Trainer will plan each session to insure that all 4 group members get the maximum benefit from the work outs!

Adult Sports

Adult Coed Softball
Day/Dates:  Sunday afternoons, September 12-October 31, 2010.
Team Requirements:  5 women, 5 men, must be 18 yrs and older.
Game Location:  Mulvane Sports Complex.

Gather a group of fellow employees, church members, family or friends and come play some softball! Officials will be provided. A minimum of 4 teams are required to have this league.

Continuing..

Open Gym Basketball: The MRC Gym is open for playing basketball Monday through Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and Sundays. Membership or a $3.00 Day Pass is required to use the gym.

Exceptions: There may be short periods of time when the Gym is closed for MRC programs such as Summer Rec. We will try to post dates and times prior to these closings.
