Senior Citizen Programs

Several of our adult classes are suitable for Senior Citizens. In addition, the MRC sponsors activities especially for Seniors, such as monthly bus trips.

Children are not allowed at activities or on trips, accompanied or not,
unless specified as in Grandparents Day.

Senior Enrichment and Fitness Classes

Seniors are welcome to participate in any Enrichment or Fitness classes listed on the Adult page. Some fitness classes may be more adaptable than others. If you have any questions on a specific class, please call the MRC.

Enrichment classes require a Registration Form and payment due before the class starts or stated deadline, to insure your place in the class. Some classes with limited participation may fill up before the deadline so register as soon as possible.

Senior Fitness

Senior Sneakers NEW! Just for Seniors!
Day/Time:  Monday thru Thursday, Class I: 7:15-7:45 a.m./Class II: 7:45-8:15 a.m.
Fee:  $ 40.00, per time period, per 8 week session.
Ages:  55 and up.
Instructor: Marlayna Kuhn

Spring Session: March 22-May 13, 2010.* Deadline: Friday, March 19, 2010.
Summer Session: May 24-July 15, 2010.* Deadline: Friday, May 21, 2010.

This class will focus on conditioning, strength, and stability training. Equipment that will be used: thera-bands, weighted bars, and stability trainers. You will begin with a 10 minute warm-up, 15 minutes of conditioning, and conclude with a 5 minute stretching session. You are welcome to walk the gym after class with the purchase of a $5.00 Senior Walking Pass.

Senior Walking Pass:
Ages: Seniors, only, 55 and older.  
Cost:
$5.00 (per 30 days from time of payment.)
Registration: Seniors will be required to fill out a Fitness Waiver and Senior Walking spacerPass Registration Form and pay fee before they can participate in this program.
Rules: Walkers may walk ONLY Mondays thru Fridays 5:30-10:00 a.m. and Saturdays spacer8:00-10:00 a.m.
spacerWalkers may NOT use the Fitness Room or the Program Studio.  Walkers may ONLY spacerbe in the gym. 
spacerWalkers must log in their arrival time on a daily sign-in sheet for Senior Walking spacerPass participants, at the MRC Front Desk.

Continuing fitness activities..

Other Walking Times: The MRC gym is reserved just for walking each morning, Monday thru Friday, from 5:30 to 10:00 a.m. and Saturday from 8:00-10:00 a.m. The Mulvane Recreation Center is closed Sunday mornings. Seniors and others can walk during all open hours with a Day Pass or MRC membership, however they may have to dodge some basketballs or volleyballs, after 10:00 a.m.
Exceptions: The Gym will be closed for: MRC Basketball games on Saturdays, Jan. 9-30, 2010 at 8:30 a.m.

Open Gym: The MRC gym is open to members and day pass users to shoot baskets or play volleyball from 10:00 a.m. to closing, Monday thru Saturday, and all afternoon Sundays.
Exceptions: The Gym will be closed for: MRC Basketball Practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. during Jan. 4-27, 2010 AND MRC Basketball games on Saturdays, Jan. 9-30, 2010 from 8:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Fitness/Weight Room: Our fitness center/weight room is equipped with treadmills, elliptical machines, a stationary bike, a recumbent bike, free weights and various weight apparatus for MRC members or Day Pass guests, 16 years old and above. The MRC has a Personal Trainer on Staff and does not allow members to bring in their own Personal Trainers from outside of the MRC.

Tyan Scott, Certified Personal Trainer, is now accepting new clients.
The personal fitness consultation gives the opportunity to have an instructor set a workout routine tailored to your fitness level and schedule. By appointment, only.

Requirements:  MRC member in good standing and assessment that includes paper work, measurements, fitness tests, etc. Costs based on person(s) x  sessions=price:

  • During your first Personal Training Session our Certified Personal Trainer will evaluate your Strength, Flexibility, Cardio strength, Body fat analysis, Measurements and Weight 
  • During the second session with our Personal Trainer, you will be given a work plan.  The Personal Trainer will guide you through the workout and answer any questions you may have. 
  • Choosing additional sessions will allow the Personal Trainer to further customize your workout. 
  • Continue to train with a Personal Trainer for consistency in work out routines, motivation and safety while working out; and you will see steady growth in your strength and in your cardio performance.
  • If you choose to work out with our Personal Trainer on a regular basis, you will meet your goals faster and safer.  Our Personal Trainer will adapt your program as needed to optimize your work outs!

Call the MRC to leave your name and a phone number to reach you. Tyan will set the appointments with you personally. Payment at the MRC is required before your first session with the personal trainer.

Personal Training 4-week Small Group Workout Plan

Try out new work out plan!  No more than 4 people and train with our Certified Personal Trainer 3 days per week for only $80.00 each per month! 

That is 12 sessions with a Certified Personal Trainer for only $80.00 per person!

This is an incredible opportunity for you and 3 friends to work out with a Certified Personal Trainer. 

During your first session, your physical abilities, weight, measurements and body fat will be evaluated.  Based on the group results, our Personal Trainer will plan each session to insure that all 4 group members get the maximum benefit from the work outs!

Senior Activities/Trips

MRC Sponsored Trips for Seniors:
The MRC plans and sponsors trips for Senior Citizens throughout the year. These trips and activities are for Seniors, aged 55 and over, ONLY, and do not include children at any time. Special arrangements can be made for adult helpers to go on these trips at their own expense.

Botanica Gardens
Date:  April 14, 2010.
Day/Time:  Wednesday, leave MRC 10: 30 a.m. – Lunch between 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – spacerVisit the Tulip Garden – Return to MRC 1:30 p.m.
Fee:  $12.00, includes transportation, admission and lunch.
Registration Deadline:  Wednesday, April 7, 2010.

Enjoy the beautiful Gardens of Botanica.  Hopefully the Tulips will be in bloom!  We will eat a lunch catered by Botanica and enjoy the outdoors.

Braum’s Dairy Farm
Date: April 27, 2010.         
Day/Time:  Tuesday, Leave MRC 7:00 a.m. – Tour 12:00 p.m. – Return to MRC 6:30 p.m. – spacerTwo meals will be provided during the trip.   
Fee:  $50.00 includes transportation, tour and lunch.  
Limit:  25 Seniors.
Registration Deadline:  Monday, April 12, 2010.         

Enjoy a nice ride in a Village Charter Bus to the Braum’s Dairy Farm in Tuttle, OK.  We will tour the Farm, see how Braum’s Ice Cream is made, watch a short video and sample ice cream.  We will enjoy a short breakfast, and a big lunch after the tour.

Brunch and Tour at A Taste of Country
Date:  May 5, 2010. 
Day/Time:  Wednesday, Leave MRC 10: 15 a.m. -  Brunch 10:30 a.m. – Tour of the 3 acres spacer– Return to MRC between 1:00 or 1:30 p.m. 
Fee:  $ 12.00 includes transportation, lunch and tour.      
Limit:  35 Seniors.
Registration Deadline:  Saturday, May 1, 2010.

Relax in the serene and picturesque country setting outside of Augusta, KS. Stroll through the garden and sit for awhile in the gazebo absorbing the sounds of the water fountain. Enjoy a private meal prepared especially for you, served in the enchanting surroundings of this country home. You are welcome to tour the home as well.

Eagle Valley Raptor Center
Date:  May 18, 2010  
Day/Time:  Tuesday, Leave MRC 9:00 a.m. – Tour 10:00 a.m. – Lunch 11:30 a.m. – Return spacerto MRC 1:30 p.m. 
Fee:  $15.00 Tour and Lunch; Lunch location TBA.  
Limit:  45 Seniors.
Registration Deadline:  Tuesday, May 11, 2010.

The program will include an educational, up close, out of cage viewing of several of our birds with 'touchables'  available such as wings, feathers, and talons.  Cameras are encouraged, as this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to actually interact with such incredible birds.

Trips require Registration Form and payment due before the set deadline, to insure your seat on the bus and at the activity. Emergency contact/phone number and any health problems must be included on the registration form to participate.

Deadlines for trips may be subject to change according to whether the reservations are full before the deadline date or not full.

Mulvane Senior Center - 777-4813

The Mulvane Senior Center is located in the Community Room north of the MRC lobby. Entrance to the center is from the East parking lot and through the door marked Mulvane Senior Center. There are 2 handicap parking spaces near the door.

Lunch: The Mulvane Senior Center provides lunches to seniors over 60 for $2.00 per lunch through the Red Cross Good Neighbor Nutrition Program—reservations required. Meals are also delivered to seniors who are homebound.  Call the Center at 777-4813 for details.

Breakfast: Every Tuesday for Donuts and Coffee from 7:30-9:30 a.m. and the second Saturday of each month for Biscuits and Gravy from 7:30-9:30 a.m.

Yoga: Mon/Wed/Fri, 9:30-10:30 a.m. seniors are invited to participate in free DVD Yoga classes that are modified for older participants. 

Social Activities: Scheduled Dominoes, Bingo, Birthday celebrations, once-a-month trips, and lunchtime entertainment or speakers on various dates.  Daily there are puzzles, computers and a pool table for seniors to use.

Health Activities:  Every 7 or 8 weeks, Harris Foot Care will tend to your feet, by appointment. The Center offers monthly blood pressure checks.

Monthly Information: Is available at the Center and below, to print out the calendar of events and newsletter.

Closings:  Watch Wichita TV channels 3 & 10 or Mulvane channel 7 for closings due to inclement weather.
