The Mulvane Recreation Commission conducts a Summer Rec program every year. For information on past programs and plans for the future, see our Summer Rec page.

All new classes require pre-registration and payment prior to starting the first class, or by the stated deadline.
Classes have size limits and only pre-paid registrants will be allowed to participate.

Effective Immediately: Out of District class participants will be required to pay an extra $5 fee because they are not part of the tax-based support for MRC. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. Class fees will no longer be pro-rated.

Class Participant Rules:

  1. Youth need not be a member to attend a class.
  2. Class fees are separate from membership fees and are based on frequency, length and cost of providing the class.
  3. Youth class participants may not bring younger brothers or sisters to the MRC during their class unless the younger siblings are paid participants. Parents are responsible for their children under 12 years old in the MRC.

Halloween Hullabaloo!
Date: October 25, 2008
Day/Time: Saturday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Fee: $2.00 per child. Pay at the door.
Please call ahead with your reservation so we won't run out of goodies!

The MRC would like to invite families and friends to our Halloween Hullabaloo. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes. The event will host a variety of fun carnival type booths, hay rack ride, and refreshments. Children can participate in “frightfully fun” activities such as pumpkin bowling, moonwalk, limbo, oooey gooey spookghetti and eyeballs, witch hat toss and many more.

Breakfast with Santa:
Date: December 13, 2008.
Day/Time: Saturday, 8:00-10:00 a.m.
Fee: $3.00 per person.
Ages: Kids from 1 to 92!
Deadline to Register: Monday, December 8, 2008.

Santa is taking the morning off from his North Pole Workshop to spend time with the children of Mulvane. Have a yummy breakfast then visit with Santa at the MRC. A photographer will be on hand for Santa pictures at a nominal fee. All children who bring their wish list to Santa will receive a return letter from him in the mail.

Youth Enrichment

Please register as soon as possible for the second session classes, as some class sizes are limited.

Tots Program:
Day/Time: Every other Saturday, 2:00-3:30 p.m.
Fee: $6.00 per month, per child (includes 2 classes per month)
         Sign up monthly or for all 3 months at once.
Ages: Preschoolers, aged 3-5 years old.
Limit: 12 tots per class.

Tots Beginner Tap/Jazz Dance:

Fee: $20.00 per 7 week session.
Ages: 3-5 years old.
Limit: 12 per class.

This class is for beginning dancers. They will learn the basics of tap and jazz while having fun at the same time. Shoes will be discussed in class.

Grab your jazz shoes and get ready to sweat! This class is a combination of technique and performance in various styles of jazz dance.

Exploring Art:
Day/Time: First Sunday of month, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Fee: $10.00 per class, per month. Fee includes supplies.
Ages: 9 years and up.
Limit: 20 students.

         Dec. 7, 2008. Deadline: Dec. 5, 2008. Theme: Georgia O'Keeffe - Watercolors.

Each class will explore a different Art technique associated with known artists from different eras. A short history of the artist's work will be shown, students will be instructed on the method of art, and then express their own art using the theme technique. Classes will involve painting and/or mixed media. Bring old shirt to cover clothing.

American Red Cross Babysitting Training Course:

Adult supervision and guides for activities provided by MRC

Get ready for action games, contests, music and more! Come to the MRC after all home varsity football games and Friday basketball games (dates listed below). Join your friends at OVERTIME! Participants must be signed in by an adult and will not be allowed to leave until an adult picks them up.

Youth Fitness

Judo:

Fee: $20.00 per 7 week session
Ages: 7 year olds thru adult.
Instructor: John Riedinger, 2nd Degree Black Belt in Judo under the U.S.J.I.

Judo is a form of self defense that teaches mat work, throws, chokes, arm bars, sweeps and self discipline. This class is instructional and offers physical benefits. Bring your whole family and get some exercise while also learning the art of Judo. Uniforms will be discussed in class.

Tae Kwon Do:
Day/Time: Tuesdays, Beg: 6:00-7:00 p.m./Adv Beg: 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Fee: $20.00 per 7 week session
Ages: 5 year olds thru adult.
Limit: 20 per class.
Instructor: Dean Carson, 4th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. His credentials are recognized by both the International Martial Arts Federation (IMAF) and the World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTF).

Session 1: Sept. 9-Oct. 21, 2008.*  Deadline: Sept. 2, 2008.

Tae Kwon Do is a martial art of self-defense from Korea that teaches powerful kicks, punches and blocks. Physically, Tae Kwon Do develops strength, speed, balance, flexibility and stamina. Class typically includes stretching, warm-up exercises, kicking drills, form practice, self-defense, and free sparring. Adults and youths will be paired by age. Wear comfortable workout clothes - Uniform information will be given in class.

Fall Ball Leagues..

Volleyball 1st/2nd Grades: Registration is closed. Practices begin September Sept 8th.  Games will begin on Saturday, September 20th and run through Saturday, October 11th.

Mulvane/Rose Hill/Douglas Volleyball; 3rd-6th grades: Registration is closed. Games will be rotated evenly between Mulvane, Rose Hill, and Douglass. Practices begin September 2nd.  Games will begin on Saturday, September 13th and run through Saturday, October 25th.  A Tournament will be held Saturday, October 25th in Rose Hill.

NFL Flag Football: Registration is closed. Practices begin September 2nd.  Games will begin on Saturday, September 13th and run through Saturday, October 25th. 

Coaches will be contacted in the event of a cancellation due to inclement weather.  Please contact your coach or check this website in regards to cancellations.  Games will be rescheduled if at all possible.

Offered during the appropriate season..
